5 cultural places to discover in Sutton

When you arrive in Sutton, it quickly becomes clear that arts and culture are a big part of this charming town’s identity.

If that speaks to you, here are a few stops you’re sure to enjoy.

D’Arts et de rêves

This sprawling seven-acre space, where large sculptures rise up from the landscape, is a true Sutton landmark. Works by a dozen artists are featured here, and the building in the park regularly hosts artists-in-residence.

Founded in 2016 by three art enthusiasts — Nicole Côté, Henri Lamoureux, and Joanie Leroux-Côté — D’Arts et de rêves is a place where you can relax, stroll along the trails, and discover extraordinary works of art.

The art galleries

Several galleries brighten the area, proudly showcasing the work of local and visiting artists. For example, Arts Sutton Art Centre is currently featuring an exhibition by artist Geneviève Roy, on view until August 31.

At Galerie Farfelu on Principale Street, works by around thirty artists and artisans from across Québec are on display.

And if you're a pottery fan, be sure to stop by Luloba Ceramics studio. You just might fall for their bowls, plates, mugs, and other pieces that are as beautiful as they are functional!

Musée des communications et d’histoire de Sutton

The museum and its collection of some 3,800 artefacts may be closed during the summer, but you can still enjoy its outdoor exhibition, Where Your Feet Take You. This hiking-themed exhibit leads you through five sites in and around town — a perfect reminder that art can also be found in nature!

Heritage tours

Head to the Tourist Information Office (27 Principale North) and choose the heritage tour that appeals to you most. It’s a great way to explore the history of the village and region — churches and cemeteries, hamlets, and more. Whether you use an audio guide or a printed map, these heritage tours offer a fun, enriching, and unique way to discover Sutton.

Espace Sutton

We can’t overlook this non-profit organization, which has been supporting Sutton’s cultural and artistic community for 25 years! To mark the occasion, a benefit concert will be held at Saint-André Church on September 28.

In the meantime, mark your calendar for August 26 for a free performance at the Public Piano, located at 1 Principale Street, at 5:30 p.m.
